The organisations that have already acquired the BS OHSAS 18001 certification can easily migrate to the ISO 45001 till March 2021. Although the ISO 45001:2018 is mainly based on the standards of OHSAS 18001, there are some differences in these two standards. ISO 45001 requires the incorporation of health and safety aspects into the overall management system of the organization, thus driving top management to have a stronger leadership role with respect to the OH&S management system. ISO 45001 focuses on identifying and controlling risks rather than hazards, as is currently required in OHSAS 18001. OHSAS 18001 has been withdrawn and replaced by ISO 45001. OHSAS 18001 has been replaced by ISO 45001 the new international standard for occupational health and safety management. Organizations who are already certified to OHSAS 18001 will need to migrate to ISO 45001 by the end of March 2021.
